January's Book is The Secret of Zoom by Lynne Jonnell

Locked up in the house and forbidden to talk to strangers, especially the children from the nearby orphanage, Christina is bored. All she wants to do is explore outside her house and go to school with other children. One day, a boy from the orphanage named Taft manages to talk to her and helps her find a secret tunnel that lets her escape. With the help of Taft, Christina discovers what really is happening at the orphanage and how her family is involved in the sinister events on Starkian Mountain.

December’s Sunshine State Reader book is Dying to Meet You by Kate Klise. This is an interesting book filled with letters, newspaper articles and brochures that tell a story.The questions are due to Mrs. Appelman by Thursday, January 5th. The Book Nook will be held Friday, January 13th.

The October Book!

The Sunshine State Reader we will be reading is Extra Credit by Andrew Clements.

It isn't that Abby Carson can't do her schoolwork, it's just that she doesn't like doing it. And that means she's pretty much failing sixth grade. When a warning letter is sent home, Abby realizes that all her slacking off could cause her to be held back -- for real Unless she wants to repeat the sixth grade, she'll have to meet some specific conditions, including taking on an extra-credit project!
